How I got here

The very first gig I ever did was when I was about 4 and a half. I had
a battery powered record deck, and played my vast collection of 3 45's
to my brother and cousins - 2 bright orange (with blue labels) and one
multi-coloured. I learnt the power of the B side at an early age, my
favourite track being "Nick Nack Paddy Wack" which was on the ‘B’ of
"Jack and Jill" - some say my musical taste hasn't progressed much, but
then we all need critics ...

My mate at school used to borrow his older brothers gear to do gigs at
the local youth club once a week, and once I cottoned on to how many
more girls he was getting than me, I started to help him.

For 3+ years it was great fun and we used to get asked to do "special"
parties (18th and 21st), then weddings and we learnt loads. He
eventually got bored and sold the gear off, and I had only just started
work so couldn't afford my own stuff.

I never left music far behind though, and started attending Kent Soul
gigs at Greenways and Margate, always hoping and never dreaming that one
day I would be DJ'ing at their bigger brother.

In the meantime I looked for every opportunity to play, helping out
another mate who had a mobile disco by starting up a rock hour on his
regular Sunday nights at the Ship Inn, Faversham.

The pub is now flats but I still work from time to time with the mate -
funny enough both were called Steve ... as was my old boss at my first
residency (hmmm ... welcome to the Twilight Zone)

I now have my own gear, am lucky enough to be able to cherry pick
weddings and parties, and use it currently for running my "Soul Club"
nights.

I've never really wanted to work the mainstream, although I have had
residencies in local clubs from time to time, done a few radio shows and
now of course Caister.

Musical tastes ? Well, pretty much everything from AC/DC to Jonathan
Butler.

Soul wise it has to be anything that makes you feel good. To me Soul
music is music that makes your spine tingle and you want to close your
eyes and get lost in it, and that applies to such a wide range of genres
I find it difficult for people to say they don't like it. It would be
like saying "I don't like fruit and vegetables"

To sum it up, I just get a kick out of putting a smile on peoples
faces, and music lets me do that ... thanks for reading and hope to see
