Coming
from a souless dessert that is Bury St. Edmunds in Suffolk, it was hard
to get exposed to quality funky music, apart from the odd radio show.
I got into this wonderful music when I left school and whilst my mates
were into acieeed house and the happy mondays etc (yes i'm a little younger
than most of the Caister dj's) I was buying loads of 70's, 80's jazz funk
and boogie. "You are born in the wrong era Harv" said most of
my mates.
I first heard about Caister when after a Maze gig in Cambridge a guy was
handing out flyers for 'the first all new Caister Soul Weekender' since
then i've been hooked. I haven't missed one since May 94, sacrificing
weddings and family birthdays along the way! I'm reasonably new to deejaying
having started about five years ago in local clubs and bars but my big
'soulful break' came when my good friend Pete 'dad' Collins got me a couple
of slots on the Caister Radio. Since then i've got a weekly spot at a
local bar playing Caister style stuff and even spreading the Caister vibe
in Thailand with a set at the pool party! The biggest honour though was
to play at the Caister May 05 event, to play alongside some of the best
soul jocks in the world and to play to the best soul crowd in the world
was fantastic. In my sets I love to play classic tunes which also rub
up with some choice new cuts just to keep it fresh.
Here's my top ten tunes in no particular order....
